It looks like the nice new green shirts are 30 short on one size for the pre-last-order folks. Frustrating, we were sure the order was accurate, but every box seems to have a little different count for a given size. We will have some other sizes for anyone who pre-ordered and did not get their size - and we have some of the prior year shirts to help with sizing for the ride. And if necessary, we will follow up with another order to get what you were promised in the early bird registration.
MCBT display at Poplar Plaza.
Weather Prediction for Saturday, August 27th!
89 for the High
68 for the Low
Cool breezes for the ride!
We appreciate everyone riding and helping the agency. If you have not paid, please do so today (the discount expired).
Once again we are thrilled with the your enthusiasm! Registrations are on track or ahead of prior years. The Hightailers have done a great job.
Almost all early registrations were paid online.
A small number registered and delivered payment before the Early Bird Price cut off.
...which only leaves a few who signed up and still owe for their now regular price tickets.
As soon as we all pay, the happier we'll all play.
I met a cyclist today on the edge of Germantown. A pair actually. Riding jerseys, helmets, the whole nine yards. As he inquired about the cargo rack on the back of my vehicle, I invited him to join us Saturday night for the ride.
"I think I'm too old." He didn't look old.
It was humid and getting hotter. The sun seemed to be everywhere. And they were just taking a break. Sweating and wiping their foreheads. "I've ridden it, nice event... I don't think I can stay up. I may already be in bed."
The best antidote for the sun... is shade. I guess that is true of a lot of things. Breaking a routine offers respite, interest, and a second wind.
Live long. Be young. Ride nights while you can!
In honor of anyone old enough to remember Mr. Green Jeans, we wear our colors proud.
After a great ride on a perfect summer night, Gibson donuts may quite possibly be the most perfect blend of sweetness and stimulation with an aftertaste of sublime satisfaction.
Of course you would do it.
Register before the 20th when the prices go up!!!
Thank you to everyone who ordered Jerseys for ride night. You can still get Jerseys delivered to you through the MCBT registration at the Hightailers site. As the ride is growing nearer, the vendor can not guarantee shipment by ride night.
I stumbled across this interesting publisher with a bicycling bent.
They are also a book store and fellow Charitable institution.
First, I want to say the site is worth the time. The landing page notes publications like Boneshaker: A Bicycling Almanac. "The editors of Boneshaker believe that the bicycle, when conceived of and used appropriately, can become a tool for social change and community building... This almanac is, therefore, a collective ode to the ride itself, that fundamentally lonesome experience one has in the saddle, and the results of repeating that ride over and over in different directions on different days with different destinations in each instance." Pocket size for cyclists.
Second, they also publish a periodical called Matter. Issues 5, 9 and 10 a little more cycle centric, but they are all thoughtful works of our world.
Matter 13 is a tribute to Edward Abbey 1927 - 1989. Their description points to a purpose...
"We hope that the collected voices in this issue provoke, inspire, agitate, infuriate, redirect, and get more folks out on the river, back in the woods, up in the mountains to fall in love all over again with the wilderness."
